We planted this Allegheny Serviceberry (Amelanchier laevis) in a 3x3 tree pit in Philadelphia 3 years ago, and it’s growing well! The winter is the best time to prune these, so I’ve done a bit of pruning to make sure that the tree remains as a single trunk, and to clear a bit more space on the sidewalk and on the street side. It’s a good idea to prune for structure when the tree is young instead of waiting until the branches are much thicker. Pruning now will limit wound size and make it easier
