This Silver hilted lightweight sword was purchased by General Washington from a craftsman in Philadelphia in 1770 and worn by him at the beginning of the American Revolution. His choice to buy an American made sword might’ve been political as the year prior saw the English crown dissolving the House of Burgesses and the former members adopting the Virginia Nonimportation Resolutions which encouraged colonists to buy American instead of imported British goods. #history #museum #philadelphia #geor
